MY FRIEND AND I

She is tall. slim and elegant too

Quite reticent in her manner

To any goose she'd never say "boo"

No one could ever look neater.

Her clothes are smart, real "band box' look

And her hair is almost pure white

Added to this she's a superb cook

She's never caught looking a sight.

Now as for me, I'm shorter in height

Much rounder in shape alas!

Never the less I'm sure I look right

Although not quite in her class.

She's always there if I need a hand

She offers - before I can ask

There's never a fuss - never a moan

She is willing, whatever the task.

She can be quiet when I need some peace

Yet knows when I need a good chat.

I'm very glad I can call her ""friend"

There's no nicer word than that.

EYES

There are eyes as blue as the deep blue sea

And some that are emerald green,

While others that come in odd shades of grey

And some that are saucy and gleam.

With hazels, olives and ambers as well

Those deep pits hold so many signs

And some get shrouded in very dark 'shades'

Maybe to hide furrowed lines.

They show when we're happy and when we're gay

And glowering when we are mad,

But how they deaden and darken with pain

When our grieving makes us so sad.

At other times they can light up a room

And brighten each hour of the day

With laughter and happiness shining through,

Yet shadowed in mist when we pray.

Mystery objects they are to be sure

Those deeply mysterious eyes.

They can be so clever and honest and true

But sometimes can also tell lies

Home.
